Annapurna Restaurant brings a warm and authentic taste of Nepal to the bustling neighbourhood. With a passionate commitment to serving quality food that’s not only delicious but also health-conscious, Annapurna uses less oil, minimal salt, and freshly ground spices, along with locally sourced ingredients wherever possible. This dedication to freshness was evident in every dish served during our recent visit.

“Beautifully arranged momos with vibrant sauce, offering a delicious and inviting taste of South Asian culinary artistry.”

For starters, we indulged in a range of classic Nepalese flavours. The crispy, golden Onion Bhaji was light yet flavourful, while the spiced marinated BBQ Chicken Choila delighted with its deep, smoky profile—a classic Nepalese favourite. Of course, no Nepalese meal is complete without the national dish, Momo (Nepalese dumplings). Soft and generously stuffed, the Momos were a perfect nod to Annapurna’s authenticity.

Moving on to the mains, each dish maintained its unique flavour while staying true to the restaurant’s emphasis on health. The traditional black lentils and tender lamb cooked with a careful balance of Nepalese spices offered a rich and hearty experience, while the Chicken Korma, made with coconut milk and mild Annapurna spices, was luxuriously creamy. The house special, Chicken Shamser, was a standout, accompanied by a variety of thoughtfully crafted side dishes. We particularly enjoyed the spinach and potato, spinach and paneer, and aubergine curry—all of which were seasoned to perfection. These sides paired beautifully with the light, fluffy pilau rice, fresh chapati, and the indulgent keema naan.

Throughout the meal, we were treated to Gurkha Beer, Nepal’s most famous beer. Its refreshing quality complemented the spices and richness of the dishes, enhancing the experience. To finish, we enjoyed the house-special Kulfi—a delightful mango and pistachio ice cream with the unique depth of reduced milk, rounding off the meal with a sweet Nepalese touch.

Despite being mid-week, the restaurant was full, creating a vibrant and welcoming atmosphere. Annapurna appears to be family-run, with the owner-manager personally overseeing service, ensuring each table received prompt and attentive care. The ambiance is cosy and well-decorated, capturing the Nepalese spirit and making it ideal for families or groups; a private group space is available for parties of up to 10, and the décor gives it an intimate, Nepalese feel.

In an area like Sheen, known for its discerning clientele, Annapurna stands out not only for its authenticity but also for its affordability—a rare find in Richmond. I look forward to returning, perhaps with my family, to explore even more of their offerings.
