Bombay Restaurant Proves That Tradition And Innovation Can Share The Same Table

A Family Legacy Of Award-Winning Flavours, Warm Hospitality, And Authentic Indian Cuisine

Bombay Restaurant combines exceptional hospitality with beautifully crafted Indian cuisine. Signature dishes, authentic Bengali flavours, and a welcoming family atmosphere explain why this award-winning restaurant has thrived for decades.

alking into Bombay Restaurant feels a little like stepping into a football club’s trophy room. The walls are proudly adorned with awards, accolades, and recognitions collected over more than four decades of serving the Leamington Spa community. At first, I wondered why so much of the décor celebrated the restaurant’s achievements. After tasting the food, it all made perfect sense—those awards weren’t there for decoration; they were earned.

The interior strikes a balance between traditional charm and modern elegance. Crisp white tablecloths, comfortable green upholstered seating, tasteful mirrors, and subtle South Asian artwork create a refined yet welcoming dining space. The restaurant avoids being overly extravagant, instead focusing on warmth and comfort, making it equally suitable for a romantic dinner, a family celebration, or a relaxed evening with friends.

The lighting deserves special mention. Soft, warm spotlights create a cosy atmosphere without being too dim, allowing diners to comfortably enjoy both the food and the surroundings. It has an intimate feel while remaining bright enough to appreciate the beautifully presented dishes.

Bombay’s Signature Sea Bass is a masterclass in balance—crispy, tender, and beautifully complemented by a refreshing fruit salsa that makes this unforgettable starter a true signature dish.

Signature Sea Bass

I started with Bombay’s Signature Sea Bass, and what an incredible way to begin the meal. Although it’s listed as a starter, the portion is generous enough to be served as a light main course.

The sea bass was beautifully battered—light, crispy, and perfectly golden without being greasy. Beneath the crisp coating, the fish remained wonderfully tender, flaky, and full of its natural flavour. The mustard marinade added a subtle warmth that complemented rather than overpowered the delicate sea bass.

What really made this dish stand out was the fresh fruit salsa. The combination of apples, pears, and peaches brought a refreshing sweetness that worked surprisingly well with the fish, while the salsa dressing and drizzle of balsamic vinegar added just the right balance of acidity. It’s a creative dish that you won’t find in many Indian restaurants, and it’s easy to see why it has quickly become one of Bombay’s signature creations.

This is a starter that sets the bar incredibly high—I would happily order it again, even as a main course.

Bombay’s Lamb Shatkora showcases tender, slow-cooked lamb infused with the distinctive citrus notes of Bengali shatkora, creating a beautifully balanced and deeply satisfying curry.

Lamb Shatkora

For my main course, I chose the Lamb Shatkora, a traditional Bengali and North Indian speciality, and it certainly didn’t disappoint. The lamb was beautifully cooked—tender, succulent, and so soft it almost melted in the mouth.

The star of the dish is the shatkora, a unique Bengali citrus fruit that gives the curry its distinctive flavour. Its fragrant, slightly tangy notes lifted the rich lamb beautifully, creating a depth of flavour that was both comforting and refreshing. Cooked with potatoes, garlic, ginger, and a gentle blend of spices, the curry was mild enough to let every ingredient shine without overpowering the palate.

This is a wonderfully balanced dish that showcases traditional Bengali flavours at their best. Rich, aromatic, and incredibly satisfying, it’s a must-try for anyone looking to experience something beyond the usual Indian restaurant favourites.

Chicken Tikka Biryani

You simply can’t review an Indian restaurant without trying a Biryani—it’s one of the signature dishes that defines Indian cuisine. So, I ordered the Chicken Tikka Biryani, and it was a fantastic choice.

The fragrant basmati rice was perfectly cooked and infused with aromatic spices, while the freshly cooked chicken tikka added a wonderful smoky flavour and remained juicy and tender throughout. Every mouthful was packed with flavour without being overly spicy.

Served with a boiled egg and fresh salad, the accompaniments added both texture and freshness to the dish. The vegetable curry on the side was a thoughtful addition, providing just the right amount of rich, flavourful sauce to complement the biryani without overwhelming it.

This was a well-executed biryani that stayed true to its traditional roots while delivering the quality and freshness you’d expect from a restaurant with Bombay’s reputation. It’s a classic dish done exceptionally well.

Bombay Restaurant is far more than just another Indian restaurant—it’s a family-run establishment with over 45 years of history, passion, and continuous innovation. Under the guidance of the father-and-daughter team, the restaurant has successfully blended tradition with modern ideas while never losing sight of what matters most: exceptional food and genuine hospitality.

From the moment you walk through the door, you’re made to feel like part of the family. The warm welcome, attentive service, elegant surroundings, and obvious pride the team takes in every dish create an experience that goes well beyond simply having a meal.

Whether you’re a long-time lover of Indian cuisine or looking to discover something beyond the usual curry house favourites, Bombay Restaurant delivers an authentic, memorable dining experience.
