Crunch Corn Marks New Chapter for Popcorn Kitchen
Popcorn Kitchen launches Crunch Corn, a giant Peruvian Choclo corn snack inspired by Seville Food Fair, offering crunchy, HFSS-compliant flavours as an alternative to crisps, nuts, and seeds new range
Popcorn Kitchen has announced the launch of a new snack range, Crunch Corn, marking what the company describes as a natural evolution in its approach to savoury snacking. The new product line has been developed under the direction of founder Louise Monk and her team, who have long focused on mushroom corn as a premium alternative to more common popcorn varieties. According to the company, the latest development centres on delivering a more pronounced crunch and bold flavour experience.
The idea for Crunch Corn originated following a discovery of Peruvian giant “Choclo” corn at the Seville Food Fair (Feria de Abril) in 2023. While exploring local food and drink offerings, Monk reportedly encountered roasted giant corn kernels seasoned for maximum crunch and flavour. This experience prompted further exploration into sourcing and production.
After approximately two years of development, Popcorn Kitchen secured a supplier capable of producing the desired texture and quality. The result is a range built around large corn kernels designed to provide a firm, crisp bite while serving as a neutral base for seasoning.
Crunch Corn will launch in three flavours: Sea Salt, Salt & Vinegar, and Spicy Chilli, sold in 100g sharing bags. The company positions the product as a fibre-rich, HFSS-compliant alternative to traditional snacks such as crisps, nuts, and seeds.
Louise Monk said the aim was to create a more satisfying savoury snack option for consumers seeking alternatives to existing categories. She added that the team’s experience in popcorn production informed the development of what they describe as a “new crunchy snacking format.”
The product will be available through Popcorn Kitchen’s website, popcornkitchen.co.uk.
