Photo: Kamal’s Kitchen: A Celebration Of Nepalese Flavours With Authentic Dishes Like Momo And Samay Baji, Prepared With Love And Tradition
A Family-Run, Boutique Restaurant
Kamal’s Kitchen celebrates Nepalese cuisine with heartfelt dishes, Newari heritage, and cultural authenticity. Warm service, bold flavours, and boutique charm make this hidden gem a love letter to Nepal.
Independent restaurants with true soul are rare, and Kamal’s Kitchen is exactly that. A small, family-run business, this boutique restaurant delivers the warmth of Nepal with every dish. Owned by Kamal Tamrakar and his wife, from a proud Newari family, the restaurant is not just a place to eat—it is a living expression of heritage, tradition, and love.
The King of Dumplings
No visit here is complete without momo, the national dish of Nepal and its greatest global food ambassador. Perfectly steamed and delicately spiced, momo reigns supreme at Kamal’s Kitchen. Few dishes capture the identity of a country so completely, and here, each dumpling tastes like home.
Kamal’s Kitchen brings Nepal’s flavours to life with authenticity, family warmth, and boutique charm, offering an unforgettable cultural dining experience.
The Newari Treasure: Samay Baji
Equally essential is the Samay Baji, a celebratory Newari feast that is rarely found outside Nepal. Authentic, rich, and deeply rooted in tradition, this is the dish that sets Kamal’s Kitchen apart from any other Nepalese restaurant in the UK. It owes its authenticity to Kamal’s wife, whose family traditions are preserved in every element. Together, they cook from the heart, adding one special ingredient that cannot be bought: soul.
Noodles with Identity
We also tried Kamal’s noodles. But these were no ordinary noodles—these were Kamal’s noodles. He explained: “I cannot bring the whole of Nepal to the UK, but I can bring the flavour, the aura, and the allure of Nepal.” And he does exactly that. Each dish captures something beyond taste: it carries memory, emotion, and a sense of place.
“Independent restaurants with true soul are rare, and Kamal’s Kitchen is exactly that.”
Atmosphere and Service
The restaurant is small but beautiful, with a boutique charm. The service is friendly and family-style, led by Kamal’s daughter, who manages the front with ease. This is dining as it should be—welcoming, warm, and personal.
Value and Verdict
We dined as two, with a beer each and bottled water, for just £70. Generous portions, bold flavours, and a bill that feels more than fair. This may not carry a Michelin star, but the flavours rival any fine-dining experience.
Final Verdict: Kamal’s Kitchen is a love letter to Nepal. It is where food, culture, and family come together. If you miss Nepal, visit. If you are planning to go to Nepal, visit. If you have just returned from Nepal, visit. Five out of five.
